Make Victoria’s Secret Lenient Credit Criteria Work for Your Start As a 17 Year Old

leave a comment »

By Larry Chiang

Starting as a 17 y.o. with no credit means you’re going to have to beat the chicken or the egg problem. No one trusts you with a starter line of credit until someone trusted you with a starter line of credit.

So Victoria’s Secret will trust you with a $500 line of credit. It’s because when they lend you $500, their cost of goods sold is way, way less than $500.

Hi Marta,
Thx for the email intro to Carlos!

Following up… it was page 75. Fluffy animal as a cute logo. [We were talking about distribution with the person who makes animal caricatures in your house]

Niv Dror, Jason Lemkin, Parker Thompson and Dan Shipper on the Cusp of a Steve Blank ENGR 145 Issue

leave a comment »

By Larry Chiang

I went to the University of Illinois. All the secrets of Stanford engineering were and are available if your engineering Quad has access to YouTube.

The secrets all apply to startups dying at a 70% clip (~o.700), startup founders trying to execute distribution as a sales virgin*, and getting VC

*sales virgin. Never sold nothing. Page 99. “Four Steps to the Epiphany”

Steve Blank won’t sue me for sampling because he loads entire passages on #4ste on PDFs for MIT Harvard + anyone w Internet.

“Startups take off because YC founders make them take off.”

@garrytan I like to remind myself that the data is always qualitative early. Useful for evaluating thesis & founders. Not much else.

I will let you kids come to the same conclusion I came to when I watched Tom Chiang twist his 35+ year old brain in the attempt to go sell something (with his MIT degree that he hoped doubled as his “I don’t need to do distribution…, I’m from MIT), attitude

A Ruined Silk Blouse Is Like a Startup Bankruptcy

Abandonment. This is a problem in the startup community. PG speaks to this in his essay default alive or default dead.

But we do …
